Spiders, which are found on all continents except Antarctica, being carnivores, feed mainly on insects, other spiders, centipedes and thousands of others. However, few species are specialist predators. Some hunt by approaching prey they happen to encounter. Others use strings to catch their prey.
Many spiders attach cartilage to flowers that are similar in color to themselves. They use their legs to grab an unsuspecting insect and then deliver a fatal bite.
Spiders that use threads to capture prey use a variety of techniques. Land spiders make tubes of threads, sometimes forming hatches, from which they emerge to catch incoming insects.
Other spiders that live in the gallery place silk threads around the mouth of the tube and hunt insects. The vibrations of the threads inform the spider of the presence of a “victim”.
Summer is characterized by high temperatures and humidity. But there are moments at dawn when freshness “reigns” by the river. As the spiders settle and the combination is what is needed to set up a beautiful photo scene like the one below.
