Very warm January in Europe

Eight countries recorded very high temperatures above normal, experts say that 2023 will be even hotter.

A warmer January than ever before. The beginning of the year has recorded temperatures above normal compared to a year ago.

Eight European countries including Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia have recorded record temperatures for January which was expected to see snow and frost.

In Poland, it reached 19 degrees Celsius, a temperature that this country records only in the month of May. In Javorník in the Czech Republic it was 19.6C, 3 degrees above normal.

Temperatures in Vysokaje, Belarus, are normally around zero at this time of year, but at the beginning of this year they reached 16.4 degrees Celsius, beating the previous record.

High temperatures were recorded from December 31 to January 2 in Germany. Northern Spain and southern France recorded another record temperature of nearly 25 degrees Celisus where many people had the opportunity to enjoy a few hours on the beach.

Experts have stated that this is an extreme weather event and predictions are that this year will be even warmer. Meterologists have stated that the La Niña phenomenon is promoting an abnormal warmth in the part of Europe.

“The most worrying thing is the rate of global warming, and this is simply no longer a surprise. “Such warming shows that the future holds fewer cold periods with little frost, ice or snow,” say meteorologists.
