Former President Donald Trump is expected to appear in court this Tuesday, where he will be officially recognized with the charge against him.
American authorities have increased security in the court where the hearing will take place. The high security comes as demonstrations for and against him are expected.
New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan has not accepted media coverage inside the courtroom except for a few photojournalists.
“That this indictment includes a matter of monumental importance, this cannot be disputed. Never in the history of the United States has a president been impeached. Mr. Trump’s conviction has generated unprecedented public interest and media attention.”
Even Trump’s own lawyers asked to deny the media’s request for cameras in the courtroom.
The former head of the White House is expected to face several charges, among others, the falsification of business records, payments to ensure the silence of pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels, with whom he is suspected of having an extramarital affair, during the days of at the end of the 2016 presidential campaign. But Trump has said that he is innocent and is expected to confirm his innocence again before the court.
While Republicans have reacted by denouncing it as a case, President Joe Biden and leading Democrats have chosen to remain silent.
Asked if he was concerned about potential riots, Biden responded by saying he had confidence in the New York police.
