Google will launch its first foldable phone, the ‘Pixel Fold’ sometime in June

Google will launch its first foldable smartphone in June, challenging Samsung’s flagship foldable phone business, according to internal communications seen by CNBC.

The company is set to unveil the device at its annual developer conference, Google I/O, on May 10.

The Pixel Fold, known internally as “Felix,” will have “the best bender in a foldable phone,” according to the documents.

The phone will cost over $1,700 and compete with Samsung’s $1,799 Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Google intends to market the Pixel Fold as water-resistant and pocketable, with an external display that’s 5.8 inches wide, according to the documents. Photos seen by CNBC show that the phone will open like a book to reveal a small 7.6-inch tablet screen, which is as small as the screen of Samsung’s competitor.

The device is slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, but has a larger battery that Google says will last for 24 hours, or up to 72 hours in a low-power mode.
