As reported by Reuters, a dedicated team of cyber security engineers and staff will function as American data controllers, which will be stored on Oracle servers under the agreement made, and will not be under the supervision of TikTok.
A report from BuzzFeed News indicates that this project is known within the company as “Project Texas”, a reference to the location of Oracle offices in Texas. The company will impose new controls to prevent TikTok from accessing U.S. citizen data, and it is expected to be re-created later in Europe.
The deal was sparked by President Trump’s condemnation of the TikTok app, with allegations that American data was being used by the Chinese government. Oracle will now be TikTok’s trusted technology partner in the US.
TikTok appealed the decision, and after President Trump’s departure from the White House, a judge ruled that his administration had exceeded its authority.
