The largest cable car in the world is inaugurated

A new cable car started its operation yesterday to the highest peak of Germany, as famous people and personalities were present at its inauguration. The cable car at the top of the Tsungspitze is considered an ornament of German motoring, breaking all previous records for the height difference between the starting point and the finishing point, at the top of the mountain.

The record also constitutes the distance that exists between the top and the single supporting column. This structure worth 50 million euros came to replace a cable car that had been in place since 1963 and that could transport 240 tourists per hour to the top of the Alps, at an altitude of 2,962 meters. The new cable car has double capacity. Yesterday, the operation of the cable car was blessed by the archbishop of Munich, Cardinal Rainhard Marks, and by the Protestant bishopric of Munich and Upper Bavaria, Suzanne Brait Kesler.

Meanwhile, since last Monday and after five years of work, Switzerland can be proud of the fastest cable car in the world. Its value went to 52 million Swiss francs (or 48 million euros). The Schüyz-Stoos-Bahn was put into operation last Saturday and opened to traffic during an event open to the public on Sunday. The cable car can climb steep plateaus up to 110%. From the Slati valley station, near the town of Svits, to the mountain village of Stos, the cable car climbs 744 vertical meters, on an itinerary of 1,738 meters in length, at a speed of 10m per second, according to the newspaper ?Noie Tsirher?. More than 500 cable cars operate in Switzerland. The supermodern vertical railway is not only for the transport of tourists? but it is also a lifeboat for the 150 inhabitants of the village of Stos, according to the ?Belt? newspaper. / Weather.al /
