A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake shook southern Mexico on Sunday morning, sending residents of the capital into the streets. According to foreign media, the United States Geological Survey said the epicenter of the earthquake was 4 kilometers northwest of Corral Falso in the southern state of Guerrero.
The area stretches along Mexico’s Pacific coast between the beach resorts of Acapulco and Zihuatenejo. There were no immediate reports of damage, but President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said via Twitter that civil defense was looking into whether any material damage had been caused. López Obrador later tweeted a video of a live conversation with Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado, in which she said there were no reports of damage or casualties.
