A terrible fire has destroyed one of the largest fresh food markets in the world on the outskirts of the French capital Paris.
Firefighters said there were no casualties and no people reported missing, but the fruit and vegetable wholesale complex south of the capital was inexplicably destroyed.
The fire that started yesterday shortly after noon was brought under control after a few hours, while amateur footage showed a massive plume of black smoke rising from the scene.
“It’s shocking, but at least there were no victims,” said one of the market’s owners, Shaoul Abramczyk.
“From tomorrow we will not be able to fulfill the orders of our partners for several days”, he said.
“When an operator becomes a victim of such a tragedy, the entire market is hit right in the heart,” said market leader Stephane Layani.
Fire officials said flames had quickly spread throughout the building and when they arrived, the roofs had begun to collapse.
“The fire was coming out of the windows, but we managed to put it out in two hours. It is sad that now all the market employees have lost their jobs.”
