Louisiana, August 28 – At least 6 people died in Louisiana as a result of Hurricane Laura which flooded the country on Thursday.
According to foreign media, the people who died are said to have been hit by the collapse of trees in their homes.
“It was the strongest storm ever to land in Louisiana,” said Governor John Bel Edvard.
“The hurricane is causing great and threatening damage to human life,” he said.
Reportedly among the victims from these winds, was a 14-year-old girl.
Hurricane “Laura” of category four, yesterday reached the coast of the United States of America, hitting Louisiana with winds over 240 kilometers per hour.
Almost half a million inhabitants have been evacuated.
Experts have previously warned of “catastrophic storms and flash floods”.
‘Laura’ is a storm of historic proportions, the wind speed decreasing has exceeded that of Hurricane ‘Katrina’ in 2005 which is known as the strongest in recent years.
103 thousand homes were left without electricity in Louisiana and about 17 thousand apartments in Texas. The U.S. National Hurricane Center has forecast waves up to 6 feet high.
