A massive asteroid hit Eastern Europe, causing a crisis of historic proportions. Fortunately, it was simply simulation. The space rock was invented by a team of NASA experts to assess whether we are ready to deflect such a impact.
The unfortunate conclusion is that technologies capable of deflecting such a spatial rock have simply not yet been created, reports Insider.
As part of the Planetary Defense Conference, Asteroid Hypothetical Exercise, set up by NASA Laboratory last week, experts created the fictitious asteroid called 2021PDC, which would hit Earth within months.
The simulation prompted several US and European emergency response teams to find solutions. As more and more information became available about the trajectory, size, and region of impact of 2021PDC, experts sought to find realistic course of action.
