A railway company in western Japan has started operating the so-called dual-mode vehicle that runs on both rails and roads.
It looks like a minibus and works with normal tires on the road. But when it gets to the rails, the steel wheels come down from the bottom of the vehicle to the railroad tracks, turning it into a train. This is the first vehicle of its kind in the world.
The CEO of Asa Coast Railway says that such vehicles can help local transport companies that are in a crisis to provide more revenue in this way.
The vehicle travels at a speed of 60 km / h on rails and up to 100 km / h on the road. Currently this vehicle can carry up to 21 passengers, but this number has been reduced due to the coronavirus pandemic.
