Hackers are using servers in Google Cloud

Cryptocurrency diggers are using hacked Google Cloud accounts for digging purposes warned the search giant.

The cyber security team said malicious actors are digging into cryptocurrencies through Cloud servers. Cryptocurrency mining is a very lucrative activity, but it requires large amounts of computing power that Google Cloud consumers can access, but at a cost.

Google said 86% of hacked Cloud accounts were used for cryptocurrency digging. As many as 50 accounts were compromised while 10% of accounts were used to scan other Internet servers to identify vulnerable systems.

Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency in the world, is known for its high energy consumption. Digging bitcoin often consumes more energy than different countries of the world. Among other things, Google researchers had exposed a “phishing” attack by the Russian group APT28 or as it is otherwise known “Fancy Bear”.
